CvS2 Leftovers ’04

Still no Gouken TACV, but expect to see it next week. In the meantime, here’s a quick mashup of CvS2 combos i recorded back in 2004 – primarily for an Evo trailer which never materialized.

There’s not much to say about the contents. Chun Li and Maki get beat up a lot because they’re special. Rolento gets beat up a whole lot because he’s literally the Rolento of CvS2. Curvy lifebars mean CvS and green curvy lifebars mean CvSPro.

I’ll be happy to explain anything specific if anyone asks, but i’m not going to bother writing a full transcript for ’04 combos in 2010.

Background music is Adon’s original stage theme from SFA.

Haha i got Ken to say “CC” at 2:24. Never noticed that before.

Sorry about postponing Gouken’s turn once again, but yeah, circumstances beyond my control.

Loved the Gief OTG combo and the Mai Shiranui one near the end.
I needed to see some CVS Pro stuffs, there’s not so much combo footages about that game.

never seen any zangief throw combo before. amazing.
are there any special reasons to select todo as target for the 0:50 chunli show?

Not really, but he is kinda fat. The spacing on that combo is tricky because you need far s.LK but then you still need to be close enough to chain all three of them. Plus i like to rotate combo dummies when possible, because you rarely get the chance to see anyone outside the usual suspects. I think combovids look better when it’s not only one character getting beat up.

What was up with Maki flying up so late after getting hit by Yun? That looked realy weird.
A-Zangief combo was sweet and I always like seeing the end of Kyo’s whatchamacallit special being used as a down attack.

You know how the MP and HP versions of Yun’s shoulder check launch the opponent and set up a free juggle? Well apparently the LP version does that too when it knocks down, except it normally doesn’t knock down. But that happens if you use it as anti-air or if you cause a special knockdown on the ground, for example by dizzying with it or hitting Maki’s Counter Attack recovery. Except obviously they become invincible if you dizzy them so you lose the free juggle opportunity.

Because the way that bug works, she has to go through ground hit stun first. It’s only like one or two frames short of regular hit stun, because i don’t think you can connect one-frame links while Maki’s in that state.
