SSF4 Week-Three Combos: Day Nineteen

On one hand, Makoto boasts some ridiculously damaging attacks. On the other hand, her super inflicts no damage while depriving her of EX ammunition. She still comes within 35 points of killing Seth in spite of these obstacles, but her surprisingly low hard attack damage keeps her from finishing the job. (And i finally got around to trying out desk’s “trial+” concept.)

Notes: Makoto’s normal Fukiage, Hayate, and Tsurugi have juggle potentials of one. Her EX Fukiage has a juggle potential of one, her EX Hayate has a juggle potential of two, and her EX Tsurugi has a juggle potential of two on the first hit and three on the second. The secondary animation of Abare Tosanami leaves the opponent in a free juggle state when it connects during crumple fall. Honda’s c.LP xx EX Hundred Hand Slap pushes him slightly closer to the opponent with each repetition. Juri’s Senpusha xx FADC provides +3 frame advantage.

Some of these combos are tool-assisted, recorded with two ASCII PAD V Pro programmable controllers. Absolutely no cheats, hacks, or game-altering devices were used in the making of.

Sorry about the delay in releasing this episode. I had all the clips done last night but i had an appointment this morning so i couldn’t afford to stay up late to edit/encode/upload the video.

    Hey Maj,

By “her EX Karakusa has a juggle potential of two” – do you mean EX Oroshi ? Karakusa is her command grab :)

Is there a reason why DeeJays Climax Beat doesn’t go into the animation here… but almost always does in every situation you’ve used it in?

Does it just, decide not to go into animation after a certain juggle value? That’s odd.

It only goes into cinematic mode if the first hit connects, kinda like Shoto ShinSho. I just did it really early for variety’s sake, ’cause i figured nobody wanted to sit through the whole thing a third time.

Yeah i actually like it more in combos if it hits that way. Some times, the last hit dous launch.Did did happen to you? They fall like isntantly after one of the hitsconnect.

Btw i realized i screwed up the first Makoto combo. As i was uploading it, i remembered she can do more damage with lvl2 LP dashpunch than lvl1 MP dashpunch. I don’t know which version puts her closer to the opponent or if it matters in this particular instance, but either way the last one definitely should’ve been a lvl2 LP dashpunch instead.

It’s worth it every time. Probably my favorite Ultra in the game at this point.

You almost certain are already aware, but Makoto’s j.fp, nj.fp, and f+lk have a juggle potential of one as well. And yeah, EX Oroshi has juggle one.

Just thought I’d mention it for completeness sake. Though I realize that you only intended to mention those you actually used.

It would be nice if Makoto had more depth to her combo-ability. The above is 99% certain to be optimal, other than varying versions and charges of Hayate.

Theli: Only the first clip has that flaw. The second clip uses lvl2 HP dashpunch which is why FADC is necessary. Using uncharged HP dashpunch would’ve hit Blanka early enough to connect uppunch without FADC – at least LP uppunch. The third clip is lvl2 MP dashpunch followed by meaty lvl3 HP dashpunch.

error1: Sorry, nothing. I waited for a really long time too.

Maj: Heh… Nice to know. I am not nearly the perfectionist as you are and most likely would have never noticed myself. :p

I did wonder if maybe something can be done with interrupted lvl2/3 focus attack into n.fp for stun with fewer hits… Or perhaps some other weird setup to allow ToD on Seth, even if completely impractical. But it looks like they really went hardcore on containing the makoto beast.

Tarnish: It is pretty cool, yeah, but not my favorite. I like Honda’s new one, Gen’s new KKK stance one, Fei Long’s new one, T.Hawks anti-air one, and of course Sonic Hurricane. The ending of Ryu’s ShinSho is badass too.

Theli: Balrog and maybe Gouken are the only non-infinite characters with any chance whatsoever of ever having a touch of death combo starting with a Focus Attack. You sacrifice 100-200 aggregate points of damage to scaling any time you do that.

Hey guys, sorry for the lack of updates. I’ve had these damn clips ready for two days now but haven’t had the chance to edit the video. Hopefully it’ll be uploaded by tonight whenever i get home. There’s some Makoto odds and ends, some new Cody, some ghetto Juri …
