sh/f Super Fireball Battle

This is the first video premiered at Evo2k10, before HDR finals on July 11th, 2010! The whole concept is projectiles interacting in elaborate and interesting ways. We tried to avoid inflicting damage to the characters, but sometimes we allowed them to get hit for dramatic effect.

Since the majority of these choreographed sequences are intuitive by design, it’s probably best to simplify the write-up by providing technical breakdowns only for the confusing parts.

0:07 SF3:3S Chun Li’s Kikou-sho acts as a stationary projectile, lasting long enough to wipe out Remy’s entire Light of Justice array.

0:10 CFE Demitri initiates this sequence by sending an ES Chaos Flare through Pyron’s LP Sol Smasher, establishing the numerical discrepancy perpetuated until the end.

0:12 SFA2 Ryus mix CC LP Hadokens and lvl1 Shinku Hadokens to create the illusion of chaos.

0:15 CvS Terry’s lvl1 Power Geyser and Kyo’s lvl1 Orochi Nagi both behave like standard single-hit projectiles, nullifying one another cleanly.

0:22 CFE Urien parries half of Shin Akuma’s Messatsu Gouhadou to provide him enough time to race it across the screen. Originally intended to serve as a placeholder, this clip took several hours to record even with Auto Parry enabled. We just ran out of time to replace it.

0:30 CvS2 N-Geese’s HP Double Reppuken blows out Dhalsim’s LP Yoga Fire and LP Yoga Flame, then Geese’s lvl3 Raging Storm wards off Dhalsim’s lvl3 Yoga Tempest.

0:40 GF Chun Li’s lvl3 Kikoken hits thrice while Ryu’s lvl2 Hadoken only hits twice, which means it takes three from Ryu to match two from Chun Li.

0:43 CvS2 C-Athena’s Crystal Shoot hits twice at lvl1 and thrice at lvl2, while K-Nakoruru’s lvl3 Shichikapu Kamui Irushika hits five times to wipe out both.

0:52 CvS2 K-Eagle’s Saint Andrews Green treats individual components of C-Kyosuke’s Cross Cutter and Super Cross Cutter as standard projectiles, reflecting them all simultaneously.

0:57 COTA Cyclops can superjump-cancel his s.HP and c.HP optic bullets. Sentinel’s s.MP and c.MP launch two rockets each, and his s.HP beam erases any projectiles it touches. Both characters are suki-canceling whenever possible. Cyclops’ s.HP nullifies the central orb of Sentinel’s Plasma Storm and his MP Gene Splice passes through the rest.

1:04 CvS2 P-Kim’s Spirit of Conquest Kick nullifies single-hit projectiles. It works on N-Terry’s LP Power Wave and lvl1 Power Geyser. It’s impossible to parry low while Auto Parry is on.

1:11 CvS2 K-Guile’s lvl3 Sonic Hurricane lasts exactly long enough to wipe out C-Morrigan’s lvl1 air Soul Phoenix and lvl2 Soul Phoenix.

1:14 VS Jedah’s ES Nero=Fautica negates Morrigan’s ES Soul Fist and ES air Soul Fist, then Jedah activates his Santu Arrio Dark Force to evade Morrigan’s Finishing Shower.

1:18 SF3:3S Urien’s HP Metallic Sphere and PPP Aegis Reflectors destroy most of Ibuki’s Kasumi Suzaku. He recovers in time to parry the remainder.

1:21 ST Dhalsim’s Yoga Inferno is immune to every projectile except another super fireball.

1:28 CvS2 N-Rock’s Raging Storm nullifies an unlimited number of projectile hits while active.

1:32 MvC2 Guile uses the counter bug to amass many instances of Charlie’s Sonic Break, then wipes them all out with a single Sonic Hurricane.

1:40 VS Anakaris can Inhale and Disgorge enemy projectiles – an ability he demonstrates against BB Hood’s j.HK mine and HK Smiling Missile.

1:54 SFA3 V-Rolento’s VC2 shadows continue animating throughout superfreeze. Every time A-Sakura initiates a super, they advance to generate another Stinger knife.

2:04 SF4 Rose was able to reflect her own fireball before the patch.

2:07 SFEX3 Darun’s Daikaku -> Jouju negates two of Ryu’s Shinku Hadokens.

2:28 MotW Hotaru’s Kobi Kyaku break reflects a few kunai from Hokutomaru’s Chou Hissatsu Shuriken. Hotaru then just defends the remaining kunai and guard cancels into Kobi Kyaku.

2:38 KoF98 Takuma’s Ko’ou Ken autoguards Rugal’s lvl3 Kaiser Wave. Then Rugal’s lvl2 Kaiser Wave hits Takuma right as he releases his lvl1 Haou Shikou Ken, which goes on to hit Rugal.

2:49 SFA3 X-Juni’s Psycho Streak summons Bison as a five-hit projectile.

3:15 MotW Kain’s brief backdash invincibility slips through Marco’s Haou Shoukou Ken.

3:22 VS Hsien-Ko’s Reflect Gong works on her own Weapon Throw. This mirror pair manages to keep a single Akuma statue afloat for almost ten seconds sans any repetition.

3:37 SFA2 Roses must both activate CC mode to play prolonged ping pong with an LP Soul Spark, because it accelerates considerably with each reflection.

3:40 CvS2 P-Sagat throws K-Iori right as he releases his lvl3 Ura 108 Shiki, altering its base position. The waves gradually decimate the lvl3 Tiger Cannon sent after them.

3:42 MvC2 Wolverine dashes clear through Magneto’s Magnetic Shockwave as well as under Sabretooth’s Birdie assist pellets.

3:50 IaMP Sakuyas collide Bounce/No-Bounce superjump-canceled into j.C canceled into air Ambitious Jack, followed by the time-release of Sense of Thrown Edge simultaneously with another Ambitious Jack. 46 knives to collide against 46 knives, totaling 92.

3:53 TMNT:TF Donatello’s Ryuu Hadou grants him invulnerability against Asuka’s slide, then Asuka uses Kochou no Mai to pass through the remaining Ryuu Hadou frames.

3:59 KoF2k2 Rugal’s LP Reppuken doesn’t dissolve until one frame after impact – long enough to interact with Rugal’s Dark Barrier, instantly being reflected and renewed.

4:01 T3 Paul and Law face off in Tekken Ball mode, using the iron ball.

4:05 ABK Murakumos reflect (parry) each other’s EX Denkou Jirai.

4:08 MBAA Aoko constructs a Floating Starmine array symmetrically with her mirror opponent. Both Aokos perform simultaneous Severe Breaks, setting everything off to conclude the video.

This is primarily a tool-assisted gameplay video recorded using programmable controllers and emulator features. No cheats, hacks, or game-altering devices were used in the making of.

Sequences designed and recorded by Battousai, CPS2, Dammit, error1, Gen, Jinrai, Krusan, Magnetro, Maj, Mienaikage, NKI, oKutabareo, onReload, Raging Hawk, Remxi, Rithli, ShinjiGohan, Smileymike101, Vice Vecta, Xenozip, and ZenFire. Edited by Rithli.

Enjoy! Second video coming soon …

We’ll all post explanations soonish, after everyone gets back from Evo. But i just want to clarify that i contributed less than 10% of the clips in this video. It was a big collaborative effort so please don’t credit me for the whole thing. I’m just happy it got made, and finished on time for Evo2k10.

Wasn’t expecting ANY of that AT ALL. Cameras and lights and being on stage and all that … not for me.

Anyway my five minutes of internet are up and i’m down to 72 … 67 … 63 cents, so back to SSF4.

you’re insane to keep making stuff this year, but you’re some kind of reverse-engineer combo soldier either way. good shit on both videos, congrats and thanks to all the contributors! My clips didn’t make it in for several reasons, but Rithli was nice enough (or forgetful enough) to put me in the credits, so thank you to him as well.

Love seeing some darkstalkers stuff from you, the hsien-ko mirror match bit was so awesome.

Pseduo-transcripts and explanations coming soon. Might take a few days for everyone to recover from Evo though. It’s a lot of fun, but physically exhausting too.

Excellent Stuff, as always. Kudos to everyone who contributed towards this. It was truly amazing ;)

AWESOME! Everything about this video is perfect! Lot of fun to watch!

When I was at Stunfest, I was playing Garou against some guys and someone did Dong Hwan’s hcb+HP special, where he does a lot of stationary kicks, to kick all three of Hokutomaru’s shuriken out of the way. That looked like something that could have easily been in this vid, made even more awesome because it was in an actual match.

Also, when Darun blocks the second fireball, can that be considered to be the ultimate form of cockblocking? Zing!

That does sound pretty sweet. Actually, if people want to record random fireball interactions like that and post them as video responses, that’d be kinda cool.

Seeing Killing Doll threw me off lol. The last thing I expected to see was Immaterial and Missing Power.

Loved watching these at Evo! I almost wish there were videos of the screenings so I could watch the crowd reactions again. Props to everyone who worked on them. Can’t wait for the transcripts.

Okay, the transcript is now up, although it’s more like a collection of random notes. Admittedly it gets a little sparse towards the end, where the clips start moving so fast that there’s not much use to delving into details.

As always, if anyone has any further questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Xenozip. provided explanations to some clips, so i added the complicated ones (2:07, 2:28, 3:50, 3:53, 4:05) to the transcript above. Here are the rest:

0:35 SFA3 Cody tosses Bad Stone and Criminal Upper against Ken’s Hadoukens.

0:36 ST Deejay shoots Air Slashers to Sagat’s Tiger Shots.

0:38 VS Aulbath’s Sonic Wave and Sasquatch’s Big Breath (ES and non-ES).

0:41 VH Donovan Lightning Sword versus Blizzard Sword.

2:42 WW7 (Waku Waku 7) Bonus Kun’s ES Hadoukens negated by Slash’s ES Sword Slash Fury.

3:55 SS4 Galford calls Machine Gun Dog which is countered when Shizumaru’s low heavy slash hits Poppy.

4:06 ABK (Akatsuki BlitzKampf) two Blitztanks are stunned by each other’s EX B-Mine.
