Sonic Hurricane Combo DVD Year-End Report

A couple of people e-mailed me about the DVD, so i thought it might be a good idea to provide one last project update before the end of the year – even though there’s no major news.

I’m not any closer to having a tentative release date or even a rough timetable, but i still intend to complete the DVD whenever i can. Of course i feel bad about SF4 TACV 14 taking so long, but it’s been very hard to find time for anything lately. It’s (slowly) coming along though. With any luck, that Balrog / Chun Li episode should be ready by the end of the month.

In all honesty, trying to finish the DVD is pretty much the only motivation i have for continuing that video series. The way i see it, the people who pre-ordered are the ones who supported me in the most tangible sense, so you’re the people i’m most concerned about disappointing.

I’m sorry that i don’t have better news, but that’s where i stand at the moment. Hopefully things’ll get better in the next few months. In the meantime, if anyone is unhappy with how long this is taking, please let me know and i’ll send you a full refund – no questions asked.

Lastly, if anyone happens to be thinking about preordering, please wait until there’s a release date announced. If i could go back in time, i’d hold off on preorders until much, much later. Seriously that’s the only thing i wish i’d done differently; but like they say, hindsight is 20/20.

update: Due to a combination of personal and legal reasons, the DVD had to be canceled. Please read the formal announcement for more information.

I will be buying a copy. I’ll hold off until the release date is announced. There will be a Sagat video, right?

Yup, Sagat will be featured alongside Dan in Episode 15. That’ll leave only Seth and Guile, who i’ll probably split into separate episodes.

I’m actually looking forward to Sagat. He has cool juggles and some interesting movement options. Dan and Sagat should be done relatively quickly, but i have a feeling Seth and Guile might take a while.

It’s cool Maj. I’m definitely one person you can’t disappoint.

I always enjoy reading everything you post. I’m still terrible at everything because I never have time to play anything though.

Actually, I just thought of a question. When you put the TACVs onto the dvd, are you going to keep the music you used for the characters that didn’t have SF4 arrange themes at the time the same?

I’m not too sure what i’m gonna do about music yet. Obviously i can’t use mainstream copyrighted songs, so i’ll have to go back and change the soundtracks for all my old combovids.

For the SF4 TACVs, i was planning on editing all the combos into one giant video, because who wants to watch the same intro twenty times? The character order will also change to be more organized, either alphabetical or thematic or simply according to the character select screen. Either way i’ll probably have to redo the music.

Editing has never been my strong suit, so i can’t picture what it’ll look like in the end. It might be a good idea to have every character’s theme during their combos, but then that might turn out sounding terrible for characters with only two or three combos. I’ll just play around with different variations until something works well.

Aside from the main SF4 TACV video, there will be a couple other SF4 vids included too. At the very least i’ll have a “Deleted Scenes” compilation for combos that i replace. I also recorded a few of the TACV combos in Training Mode with the Attack Data displayed, so that might be worth including.

I don’t know, couple things like that. It’s all hypothetical at this point.
