Weekly Screenshot: 109th Seize Grab Technique

Since this week’s Fun With SF4 vol.1 video postponed the TACV schedule, we’ll have to go with another prize. How about this? Whoever comes up with the best title gets to decide the game highlighted in the next few screenshots. As always, the rules are one entry per person and i’ll choose my favorite on Monday.

KE Kim Young-Mok’s Counter Dangetsu Zan is triggered by blocking Gozu’s Metsu Sassou, which might be the coolest-looking special move in Kizuna Encounter.

Unfortunately Gozu initiates it by teleporting high above the screen before diving downward with claws extended. The camera stays zoomed out almost until he reaches the ground. Blocking it momentarily suspends him in the air, allowing the camera time to zoom back in, so that the character sprites look sharp for this screenshot.

Dang, there’s some good answers here. The funny ones were funny, but i had to go with the elaborate Eagle Claw reference. Because i had no idea what it meant until i looked it up and it turned out to be pretty cool.

Tarnish: Congratulations, you get to pick the featured game for the next couple screenshots. Though it has to be emulated so i can capture lossless snapshots – preferably something on CPS1, CPS2, or SNK’s MVS. There’s still countless games on those systems i haven’t explored yet, even on the Capcom side like the Darkstalkers series. But if you had something else in mind, i’m down to give it a shot.

Well, I wanted to say Fighter’s History Dynamite/Karnov’s Revenge… but I liked your piece on the 2D beat em up so I would like to see shots from either the beat em up “Armored Warriors” or the fighting game that reuses the sprites from that game “Cyberbots.”

Haha i’m learning all kinds of stuff today. I’d heard of Cyberbots though never played it, but i had no idea it was based on a side-scroller. Sounds dope! I’ll probably stick to the fighting game version because it’s way less work setting up stages and such, but if there’s time i’ll check out Armored Warriors as well.

I’ve got one more Kizuna Encounter picture to post so look for this stuff starting next Thursday.
