Street Fighter IV Screenshot Special

Believe it or not, Diablo 2 was the last PC game i played. That should explain why my computer doesn’t have a decent video card to run SF4 smoothly. Nonetheless, i just had to take these screenshots because PimpWilly bought me a Steam copy of SF4! How crazy is that? Nobody’s ever done anything like that before.

Since this is shaping up to be “Street Fighter IV Week” around here, i thought i’d postpone the Darkstalkers screenshots until next Thursday to post them all now.

sf4-ryu-dhalsim-01

SF4 Ryu’s Metsu Hadoken explodes upon colliding with Dhalsim’s Yoga Catastrophe ultra and HP Yoga Inferno super, covering the entire screen with a motion blur shockwave.

sf4-viper-bison-01

SF4 C.Viper begins her Burst Time ultra as M.Bison prepares the Psycho Crusher portion of his Nightmare Booster ultra. Pinpointing the right spacing on this one took forever.

sf4-guile-ken-01

SF4 Guile provides an EX Sonic Boom then jumps away as Ken nullifies it with EX Hadoken, then EX Focus Attack dash cancels into the wake to initiate his Shinryuken ultra.

sf4-guile-sagat-01

SF4 Guile throws an HP Sonic Boom as Sagat starts up an HK Low Tiger Shot. There’s nothing complicated or elaborate about this one, but i was trying to make Sagat look like he’s mimicking Guile’s Sonic Boom motion.

In case anyone’s curious, here are the settings used for the screenshots:

    FPS Display: OFF
    Antialiasing: NONE
    Full Screen: OFF
    Display Resolution: 1280×720
    Display Refresh Rate: 60
    Display V-Sync: ON
    Frame Rate: Variable
    Aspect Correction: AUTO
    Brightness: 50
    Parallel Rendering: ON
    Texture Filter: 16x
    Model Quality: High
    Background Quality: High
    Soft Shadow: Highest
    Self Shadow: High
    Motion Blur: High
    Particles: High
    Extra Touch: OFF

Basically everything is either default presets or as high as it would go, running at glorious 9 frames per second! (Imagine how long it took me to build meter for every attempt.) I’m unfamiliar with PC graphics voodoo so i couldn’t figure out why it wouldn’t allow me to enable anti-aliasing.

And yeah, i only have the standard sixteen characters and two default costume colors available.

There’s a patch/cheat thing you can download to unlock everything. I would look up the u2b tutorial for you but I’m almost capped.

Thank you sirs, but i’d rather do it the legit way, even if it means i’ll probably never get around to unlocking Akuma, Gouken, and Seth. Besides, i prefer the console versions for combos and such because they’re standardized. It’s great having the PC version available in case i ever want to take another Sonic Boom screenshot though.

These would be excellent wallpapers. Perhaps you could provide us with some higher-res shots? The C(hest) Viper / Bison shot is dopalicious.

If you click on each image, then click on the “All Sizes” icon, the 1280 x 720 option will give you the native resolution lossless PNG file.

Then all you have to do is expand the height to 768, add a 1280×48 sonichurricane.com logo, photoshop in a lens flare or two, and boom: classy, professional-looking wallpaper!

IC IO IM IB IO: I’ve heard of those Sonic Boom energy drinks but never seen one in person, or even a photo of a real one. What happens if you drink it?

    Dammit: Aww shucks, thanks.

Damn these are really freaking good. You should pitch these to Capcom and propose to make some screenshots for publicity and stuff. The ones they normally put out are mad generic.

I heard rumors of people spontaneously Flash kicking after a sip of that drink, but some say they grew a flattop in less then a day!!! i’m scared to drink mine LOL!

Haha yeah, i don’t know if i’d risk drinking it either. Then again … if it can help me unlock the secret of CPU Guile’s spontaneous chargeless Flash Kick …

Sweet, now s-kill is calling me the “SonicHurricane crew” on his blog. That dude’s Domination 101 essays were my first gateway to real SF strategy.

Maybe i should roll with it? If i started referring to myself in plural at supermarkets and drive-thrus, would i need therapy later?

Okay nevermind, i don’t want to end up like that guy.

You know what? Venom has got to be the most confusing character in comics. I can never decide if i actually like him. 90% of the time he’s completely lame, but everyone remembers the one iconic moment when he was cool. It’s probably because the original Venom episodes of the 90’s Spider-Man cartoon were so awesome. I mean, i haven’t seen them since then so maybe they actually suck but i remember them being dramatic and totally engrossing.

It’s like those TV commercials for toys and action figures, where those model kids look like they’re having an absolute blast. But then you realize, this toy does four things and these kids just went through all four of them in under 30 seconds. So how the hell are you supposed to play with it after an hour? Not to mention, they somehow magically have a plastic wall made of perfectly aligned plastic bricks for their heroes to break through. Nobody i knew ever owned a plastic wall.

Crazy how a good first impression can make something “cool forever.” Even if they only have one good story in them.

    @Maj

To rip off 4th letter, I could never get into the 90s Spider-Man Cartoon. The color palette they used drove me insane as a kid. And the writing just didn’t seem “cool” to me as a kid, compared to whatever it was I saw in the X-Men at the time. I’m not even sure what I wanted out of Venom, he had a cool black suit and was “edgy” Spider-Man looking thing. That character was reinvented so many times, it’s hard to tell what anyone wants from it other than the usual “evil Spider-Man looking thing.” Seems hard to roll with.

I still dig the look, but I try not to dig any deeper than that, cause I usually get burned.

Diablo 2 ftw!!!! Haha love your stuff as always, but I finally decided to sign up to post that.

Haha thank you sir. I gotta be honest, with Diablo 3 right around the corner, i’m more than a little worried about what that’s gonna do to my life. Good thing Blizzard has such wide corners.

(Nah, i’ll probably end up skipping it like i skipped WC3/WoW. Too addictive.)
