SSF4 Week-Two Combos: Day Eleven

Adon still happens to be one of my favorite Street Fighter Alpha characters, so i couldn’t resist trying out a few more variations with him. It’s nothing too crazy, but stylish nonetheless.

Notes: I’m starting to think that only the early part of Guy’s crouching hit stun animation is vulnerable to throws. Normally he doesn’t return to that state until after recovering, but it is possible to keep him in that state longer using projectiles, and possibly other instant attacks. Most of Adon’s advanced combos are highly character-specific, especially when combining elements such as vertical j.MK xx Airborne Jaguar Kick with the ability to land vertical j.MK during crumple animation. With the best possible counterhit meaty timing, Adon’s HK Jaguar Kick provides +6 frame advantage. Gen’s Oga kicks still don’t create free juggle states against air reeling opponents, but his KKK:s.HK now has a juggle potential of one assigned to the second kick. Gen’s KKK:c.HP (trade), HP Zan’ei, Shitenketsu combo deals 776 damage according to Training Mode Attack Data, but somehow Seth survives it in Versus Mode.

Some of these combos are tool-assisted, recorded with two ASCII PAD V Pro programmable controllers. Absolutely no cheats, hacks, or game-altering devices were used in the making of.

Encoder’s having problems again. Looks like another long night. Sorry guys. I’ll try to have it up by morning.

Man, what the hell is up with this thing? I’m using MeGUI and it keeps either crashing or giving me buggy-looking video.

I don’t know if it’s the program or if it’s my computer, but i know it’s acting weird. Everyone i’ve talked to says it’s ridiculous that it takes an hour of processing time per minute of video. WME takes less than a third of that time, but u2b clearly doesn’t like the WMV codec because it looks like crap. Plus u2b does all sorts of weird things to WMV files like chopping off the end of videos if it’s a still storyboard (like credits).

Anyway i’m tired of wrestling with this dumb thing. I’ll try to update to a newer version in the morning and see if that helps.

Oh god, encoder problems. That’s probably my most hated thing about making movies.
You spend all this time working on your video and when you’re done editing and the sound’s in there, you think: “All right! I’m done! Now all I have to do is render this thing!” But that’s when the all-nighter really starts… And it’s never clear what the problem is! You just have to guess and mess around with the settings.
I feel your pain. Good luck.

guy’s U2 does hyper armor damage? is that always the case? i can’t play for the next few days

It has to deal damage double the amount of the opponent’s remaining life to kill him.Works just like anyother attack it the opponent FA’s it.

Do you have anything that can confirm this? I think logically if you cannot survive the focus attack damage, you die during the attack. Having it be double? I’m not sure about that. Some sort of proof or source would be cool.

I do think the non-death has to do with the FA damage, at least.

stop asking a question i have responded already. It’s a thread on SRK dedicated exactly to this, but i don’t have the time to search it, because i have to go to high-school.You can try this easily.
In training mode, pick someone vs seth, then do a series of attacks, while not letting seth to recover his health, but also don’t combo them, until you caused him 700 damage in total.
Then go into a match, and hit seth with the exact attacks, so that he has 50 hp left. Then focus absorb with seth a 100 damage attack. He’ll survive, because, first, the attack is reduced to 75 damage because of life scaling, then the focus attack absorbs 50 damage, and removes 25 more damage out of Seth’s life, leaving him with 25 grey health. After his 25 hp recharges, he can still focus absorb a 40 damage attack, leaving him with 10 grey ,rechargable life.

zem: Yeah that’s just how his PPP ultra2 works. Originally in the Alpha series, that super would initiate a countdown that caused damage with every tick and instantly dizzied the opponent when it reached zero. I guess they wanted to simulate that “timer” aspect within the SF4 engine. Obviously it’s not the best ultra, but it is his most damaging and can skip past multiple phases of lifebar-based damage reduction because it hurts all at once.

Smileymike101: Not cool. If you don’t want to answer valid questions, leave them for someone else.

The issue with focus attacks was brought up on SRK during vanilla but I’ll be damned if I can find the thread now. Searching for focus attacks on SRK is like search for the word the anywhere else. Essentially, it was discovered that the way it works is if you focus more than the amount of life you have instead of killing you outright it starts to take away from the gray damage first.

So yes, essentially you need to do double the damage to kill Seth in this situation, or just hit him again to remove all the gray damage :P

  10. doublef

The reason Seth doesn’t die is because:

The last hit in Gen’s Shitenketsu is treated a little differently because it becomes “focused” damage.

Any focused damage that would reduce you below 0 is instead taken off the “grey-life” you could regain, but with no damage scaling (i.e. 100% damage instead of 75%).

So basically, the amount of life Seth had right before the last Shitenketsu hit was greater than the unscaled post-death damage of that attack. Which is why he survived.

I know it’s not the simplest concept, so here’s a relevant post in the relevant thread about it: http://shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=206547&p=7404038&viewfull=1#post7404038

The simplest way to answer this predicament is simply:

When you focus an attack that would normally kill you your health is Doubled.

This is the simplest way to answer it, it’s a bit deeper than that, but not much. Want to test it? Do between 670 – 699 damage against Seth. Then get him to Focus constantly & do a sweep, he lives, but his health is doubled, his extra health is signified by the greay recharge bar, as you can see that reduces like a health bar. The character cannot recharge the full amount of the attack because the grey bar is decreased after the attack.

It’s a simple concept, just hard to explain :P & nice combos Maj

But Maj.I DID ANSWER the question.Wtf is wrong people. You wanted me to skip classes to post the exact link?I said exactly what happens in that scenario in my post.

Has anyone been able to connect Gen’s divekick ultra after driveby super? It’s only a couple frames off but i don’t think he can do it. I’m pretty sure he can’t kara-cancel KKK:j.HK followup into divekick ultra either.

The point is, someone didn’t read your specific post, passed by it, etc, and you just got angry at them bro. Frankly, you’re doing it again, and it’s still not cool. Just… ignore the post, or quickly refer to your first one. It takes a lot less effort than the 2 posts you made after the face.

Just because we’re on the internet, doesn’t mean you’re not actually talking to people man! Treat ’em like you would if you were talking face to face.

  15. Smileymike101

Well ok i’ll never answer any question thoroughly like i did in that post and i’ll just say i don’t know the answer, although i know pretty much everything about the sf4 engine
(except the 10 new chars i’m currently testing with).
In my opinion, the only “mean” thing i said was “stop asking the question i already answered”, but the 2nd question after my answer, it’s asked again.I try to help, but it’s not cool.Ok, i’ll keep my discoveries to myself then, maybe that’s cool.

  16. ShadowXSnake

As a Gen player, I think I can tell you why you’re having problems connecting Dive Kick Ultra after Driveby Super. It only comes out at a set height. If you mess with it, you’ll find you simply CANNOT perform the Ultra right off the ground like some other air Ultras. The manual test for this is to try to input: down down-forward forward, down down-forward forward up-forward then kicks. Doesn’t work. What DOES work is d df f uf, d df f then kicks. Gen’s Ultra 2s are really weird, and not all that practical in actual gameplay, but maybe you can find some more entertaining uses for them.

  17. ShadowXSnake

Sorry for the double post, but it seems that you CAN use Dudley’s rose taunt to land an unblockable Ultra. This video was posted on Eventhubs and the second combo does just that:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0jKW3ad-ZQ

Seems you have to time the getup so that the rose hits at the very end of its arc.

  18. jamheald

anybody got any input to offer as to WTF is happening with chun in that vid? also rose five focuses, yay.

  19. Smileymike101

Chun li moves during the freezing part of the ultra, not in the actual gameplay, as opposed to like, honda.During the ultra freeze, they are in the googley eyes state, where they can’t block, and they are moved into the fireball, unable to block, thus eating the whole ultra after.
The key is , like i said, that she moves them into the fireball durin the ultra freeze, the 6 frame startup after it, being just her kicking, not the actual moving forward part.I hope this helped and that it’s cool.

Now you just sound pretentious, and arrogant. You noticed how two other people nicely and graciously answered your question again and tried to further clarify it for others? Now that’s someone I’d like to take advice from.
