Introducing … ComboVid.com!

Lately every time i release a new combo video, it attracts a ridiculous number of views. That’s nice and i do appreciate the feedback. The fighting game community has always been great to me and i can’t thank you guys enough.

Now here’s the problem. For every video i release, there are at least three or four really good ones that slip through the cracks. It irritates me to watch that happen because i can see how much work my friends put into their videos.

To that end, i’ve been working on a new website. Here’s what it looks like so far: ComboVid

I have a lot of ideas for it and i’m hoping it becomes a success. In fact i know it’ll be a success if it becomes what i have mind, but that’s going to take a considerable amount of time and effort. I don’t know if i’ll be able to manage that, but it’s worth a shot. Every day i’m going to make it a little better until either it becomes what i want or until i have to stop.

I hope you guys find it useful and i’d really like to hear what you think. Here goes nothing!

I’ll be spending the next week focusing on ComboVid and trying to get a handle on its daily demands. Just to let you guys know, there may not be any new posts on Sonic Hurricane during that time. Don’t worry though, things will go back to normal soon.

For the record: Yes, ComboVid may delay the DVD slightly. It is the main reason the last few SF4 TACV episodes have been late.

But the way i see it (and correct me if i’m wrong here) is that the people who preordered the DVD weren’t really buying a product so much as encouraging me to continue spending my time doing stuff like this for the community.

And i definitely believe this is an important step for us to take. The combo video release mechanism is kind of a mess right now and it desperately needs some direction. I mean we can’t hope for u2b to get their act together, so someone has to step up and build that structure. Otherwise it’ll continue on being a disorganized mess forever.

I’ll bookmark any site you make and check it every morning before work just like this one. This, SRk, and Craigslist are always my first stops lol

Thank you sir. Actually a lot of the content on here is going to show up on on ComboVid as well. I mean obviously when i release videos, they’ll be announced on ComboVid too. Same goes for most strategy articles and general technical articles, although not the ones dealing with emu scripting because that’s probably too niche.

I’ll be moving the screenshots over to CV from now on, and i’ll still do spotlights here but not on a regular basis anymore. So basically ComboVid is gonna be where i put most of the general stuff and Sonic Hurricane will go back to its roots as being a glorified .txt file.

But this’ll all make sense once you see it in motion. For now i’m just trying to catch up on all the videos released recently without going overkill in one day.

best of luck. hopefully it sticks around. GCC and video-opera didnt really seem to stay, but given the support you have i dont think there would be a better time than now.

    ^ This.

I’ll admit that when I saw the headline, my first thought was that ComboVideos.com was attempting to reinvent itself. However, I find this equally exciting. Here’s hoping it turns out well.

Well, i have no idea why GCC died but i assume it was because VidOp kind of replaced it. Then VidOp died because tragic got too busy dealing with other stuff. Then CV showed up and i had high hopes for it, but they never figured out how to cope with u2b and now it seems like BlazeD is too busy dealing with other stuff.

I kept hoping for CV to make a comeback, but it’s been updated a grand total of five times in 2010, so i guess it’s a lost cause.

Anyway this didn’t happen overnight. I’ve been talking myself in and out of this for a long, long time. Finally just decided to go for it. We’ll see what happens i guess.

I can’t speak for anyone else, but that’s absolutely why I preordered the dvd. Looking forward to seeing the site develop!

Another big effort Maj is putting in for the community. Will be supporting it as well :) I don’t normally comment a lot but I thought I should give some heads up this time.

Thank you sirs. It’s moving along at a steady pace. In three months you won’t even recognize it. Or rather i guess you wouldn’t recognize an old screenshot of it. And by old i mean current.

    … Time travel is complicated!

not recognizing it sounds intriguing, but you need to promise us that the fancy high res site banner stays.

Haha yeah right. The header image will be one of the first things to change. Give it a couple more days, but i already know what i’m gonna use.

  12. N00b_Saib0t

i think it would be awesome if you used the mspaint header, but if you have a vision dont just go off my opinion. not that you would, but, well you know what i mean.

Since you like it so much, i’ll keep it around as the header for the “About” page or something. Although eventually i’m going to have to redesign that whole top area to be a lot more compact.

why start a new site when you can expand this one?
i like Sonic Hurricane more as a brand than generic “combovid” :)

  15. Maj Post author

Mainly because Sonic Hurricane is a content site and i never wanted it to become a news site. Plus the “genericness” of ComboVid allows me to cover a broader range of games/topics without worrying about losing focus.

Also because Sonic Hurricane has been my personal website for ten years, and i’m not too keen on giving that up. Whereas ComboVid is only two weeks old, which gives me the freedom to do whatever i want with it on a day-to-day basis. Even in the past two weeks, there’s been a lot of great material on ComboVid that i never would’ve posted on Sonic Hurricane.
