CV Spotlight: Doopliss’ Bizarre SSF4 Combos

Over the past several months, Doopliss has steadily assembled a wide variety of creative clips for an intense seven-minute SSF4 video. Nearly every character in the cast is present – all set to music from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, with a matching intro storyboard to boot.

“DaDoop’s Bizarre Combos” – A SSFIV Combo Video

It’s a thoroughly entertaining video, made all the more impressive by the fact that the clips are short, so it contains a lot of interesting discoveries. What stood out to me were the Dhalsim lvl2 Focus Attack into Yoga Shangri-La combos at 2:26, the Seth stomp combo at 3:05, and Juri’s various EX fireball juggles starting at 3:31.

It was also nice to see some T.Hawk combos for a change of pace, starting at 5:07. Makoto’s dashpunch passing through Vega at 5:28 was very cool too, and i liked seeing Gouken’s EX Hurricane Kick juggling at 5:40 after its first hit whiffed. However, Dhalsim’s Yoga Inferno ping pong combo at 5:47 was probably the most impressive display overall.

CV Spotlight: Calcius Repton’s BGM Promo

I’m embarrassingly late to the party with this, but there seemed to be something major or urgent going on every week since its release. At any rate, better late than never, right?

Calcius Repton’s ‘BGM’ Promo | Bonus Round

To celebrate his band’s third album, desk collaborated with error1 on this special promo video. It contains single rounds of choroegraphed footage from SSF2T, SFA2, SF3:3S, MvSF, and SFA Dramatic Battle – along with a deleted Gem Fighter round.

The action flows continuously from one clip to the next, with the end of each round duplicated in successive titles. Even the victory symbols and lifebar levels are carefully kept intact. However, the most impressive facet of this whole project is the meticulous balance they struck between showing off difficult combos and maintaining a logical progression of counters to make it look like Ryu and Chun Li are actually fighting. That’s not at all easy to pull off.

Etc Spotlight: 83 Til – Your Commute

Well, i definitely wasn’t planning on doing this with every video they release, but it’s been so long since their last one that it’s practically breaking news again.

I’m sure you all recognize 83 Til for providing every SSF4 Month-One soundtrack and serving up the beats in style exhibition v.one – four of them to be exact. Here’s their long-awaited, much-requested, second official video.

83 Til – Your Commute

This was originally meant to be a quick follow-up release with basic editing, but it evolved into something much more elaborate. Was it worth the wait? I think so. I guess this is one of the benefits of having a dj/producer who happens to be a graphic designer by trade.

CV Spotlight: jchensor’s GGXXAC Johnny Combovid

As i’m sure Guilty Gear fans have noticed, style exhibition v.one features two GGXXAC Johnny combos courtesy of jchensor. As it happens, both clips were originally part of a much larger batch, now compiled into a new video.

“Go Johnny Go!” – A GGXX Accent Core Johnny Combo Video

If you take a look at the dates listed at the end, there’s a three-year gap between the initial recording date and when these clips finally saw the light of day. The story behind that is they were given to an editor three years ago, but he kind of disappeared.

With the deadline for Evo2k10 looming, i asked jchensor if we could use a couple of these combos in our project. He agreed, so we picked out two of the more stylistically-oriented ones and they fit perfectly. Since everyone seemed to like them at Evo, he’s released the full set. Even after all this time, i think they still stand up well – and the music is a perfect match.

CV Spotlight: Evo2k10 Leftovers

Over the course of compiling material for Super Fireball Battle and style exhibition v.one for Evolution 2010, we ended up with quite a few unused variants. Some of those contributors have compiled their surplus material into standalone bonus videos.

COTA Leftover Style Combos

Think 118 hits is enough to show everything COTA Spiral can do? Battousai proves otherwise with this trio of outrageous combos (along with a pair of berserk Wolverine clips). This was Capcom’s first Marvel series game, so they weren’t exactly careful with combo engine rules before realizing how crazy things could get.

KoF2k2 Bao Fireball Battle

As with much of the footage in SFB, the source material was longer than what made the final cut. In Bao’s case, Remxi had choreographed the mirror pair performing a whole gymnastics routine before they even started reflecting fireballs. Not to mention, there were two other versions of their battle which were left out simply for character diversity.

Error1’s Style Exhibition Leftovers

Both SF4 Sagat combos by error1 probably would’ve made it into style v.one if not for the fact that they were recorded in 16:9 resolution. I tried to fit them into the video but they always stood out too much. Almost everything else is an alternate of a clip found in the video, but they’re all fun to watch – especially the SFA2 Rose clips.
