I Give Up

I’m sorry. I tried everything i could think of, overextending myself to ridiculous extremes in the process; and i’m no closer to my goal of making any of this sustainable.

So i need to scale everything back, wrap up a few loose ends, and try to finish my Combo DVD for the handful of people who preordered it – while catching up on all the things i postponed or sacrificed along the way. I’ll try not to disappear completely, but no guarantees.

For those of you wondering what happened, here’s the problem. Anyone can do what i do for three months, maybe six months, maybe even a year. But it burns you out, like you wouldn’t believe. The 4-5 casual matches of MvC2 that i happened to play at SoCal Regionals were literally the only video games i’ve played in the past 2-3 months!

What can i say? Running these websites is a grind. Up until now i held onto hope that i could make something out of all this effort, but it’s just not happening and it’s time to face facts.

Our whole system of publishing content is broken beyond repair. If you look at any given video i’ve posted on u2b, roughly 2k views originate directly from Sonic Hurricane and roughly 10k views come from an embedded player on eventhubs.

That means “news” sites like eventhubs make at least five times as much ad revenue for every single video that i produce. Yes, we’re only talking about a few dollars here, but think of all the material that eventhubs leeches from external authors like me.

Over the last year, Sonic Hurricane has averaged around 95k hits per month, which probably makes me the most successful dedicated content producer in the community. For the record, i still haven’t made a single dime. I’ve actually lost money! That’s a really bad sign if you’re a video maker or article writer hoping to go somewhere with this.

On the other hand, eventhubs gets three million hits per month, which probably translates into a couple thousand dollars every month for that guy. Now ask yourself how much original content eventhubs produces. Yup, it’s damn near zero.

All their frame data is copied from Shoryuken.com translations of Japanese publications, all their strategy guides are stolen from SRK forums, and all their embedded videos are created by people like me. And the worst thing is, they’re actually pulling the community away from Shoryuken.com – using SRK content to do it!

It’s a sad state of affairs when the only person profiting from all this work is the guy who’s never produced a shred of original content and given nothing back to the fighting game community. And every single day, i have to watch people linking to eventhubs left and right. It’s just impossible to stay motivated when things are this fucked up.

It breaks my heart to see people talking shit about Shoryuken.com for every little error they make, then turning around and praising eventhubs. Where the hell was eventhubs when our community was struggling to stay alive, when all we had were decade-old games?

Say what you will about SRK, but you can’t deny everything they’ve done for the fighting game community. They’ve organized the best fighting game tournament in the world every year since 1996! And they lost money every year until at least 2006.

For the last three months, SRK has consistently posted game industry news faster than eventhubs. Yet every single time they slip up by a few minutes, some fool comes out of the woodwork to talk shit. Why?

You know, someone actually had the audacity to complain about a John Choi strategy article on SRK last month, because i guess he didn’t want to take advice from a top player who hadn’t won a recent tournament. I’ve had the same reaction to a few of my strategy articles. So why isn’t anyone questioning the matchup information on eventhubs?

I actually met the owner of eventhubs briefly at Evo. He seemed like a nice guy. I don’t blame him for trying to cash out on the mainstream success of SF4. But nobody knows who he is or where he came from. He just showed up with SF4 and capitalized on its instant popularity. And everyone jumped on his bandwagon and happily rode down the path of least resistance.

Honestly i love this community to pieces, but it’s hard not to be disappointed in the way this is playing out. For someone as burnt out as i am, it’s the final nail in the coffin.

Anyway i’m sure i’ll get a lot of flak from eventhubs supporters for pointing all this out, but whatever, bring it on. I can’t see any upside whatsoever from eventhubs becoming as insultingly popular as it has, and i haven’t even touched on half the negative impact that website represents. It’s just sad to see it go down like this after everything SRK has done for the community, and i’ll be quietly rooting for SRK to come out on top in the end.

    Maj, you run Combovid.com, which collects and embeds fighting game videos by other people on your own site, while you profit from ad revenue. How is what you’re doing any different from Eventhubs? I respect your work, but don’t be hypocritical. Your handling of this situation is really immature and naive.

  2. haunts

    Maj,

    it’s just how the world works, man. If you started making bank off videos, I assure you people would come out of the wood work and call you shady for doing so. Obviously in your case this would be a small percentage, but there is going to be one salty mofo out there that is upset you are making money on your videos, while he is working on similar stuff and making nothing.

  3. Shway

    Also, you say Eventhubs makes no original content, but they keep comprehensive battle logs of every tournament. Sure, not much creative thought or hard work goes into that, but the battle logs have been helpful on more than one occasion and nobody else does them.

  4. Nyoronoru

    @Shway
    Now that I look at it, this is pretty much the exact same as the Eventhubs post feeds.

    Embed videos from other users, link to their webpage/channel…

  5. Maj Post author

    Shway: You don’t understand the fundamental problem here. First and foremost, ComboVid produces ORIGINAL CONTENT. Keep in mind that it’s only two months old, so i haven’t had time to build up as much of it as you see here on Sonic Hurricane. You can say the same thing about iplaywinner but i’ve always had respect for iPW because at least they produce some original content!

    Second, eventhubs is THE news site now. For some misguided reason, everyone links to that site left and right, regardless of whether they’re the first to break a story. No other website can duplicate what they do and be successful. They simply showed up at the right time and had enough don’t-give-a-fuck-about-anyone-else business sense to rise to the top. Nothing more.

    ComboVid simply can not duplicate what eventhubs does and succeed. In other words, eventhubs is the ONLY website that can regurgitate everyone else’s content and come out ahead.

    Every week, the most hits i get on ComboVid are on days when i post articles and interviews. In other words, original content is what gets me noticed, and then i spread that around to other videos. By the way, if you haven’t noticed, the vast majority of videos i post are non-mainstream. I’m actually using whatever traffic i get to promote talented work that never got noticed before.

    With eventhubs it’s completely flipped around. They’ve become the default point of entry for 3 million visits per month, which means just rehashing the best content they can leech is enough to keep them successful.

    At this point it’s literally impossible for me to make a combo video that helps me more than it helps them. In that kind of an environment, how can you expect content producers not to give up?

  6. hadokenburst

    haunts: Wait, you’re the haunts from iplaywinner right?

    Since you’re calling eventhubs out why not mention all of the content your site steals from SRK and eventhubs? Your stories show up days later, but with no credit given or added in way after the fact in a hard to find place. There was a story you copied from SRK as well, but you added in credit later, but you didn’t make a lot of effort to point out the source of where you got it from. It’s pretty hidden.

    Hasn’t your site been in trouble for stealing content on more than one occasion? Isn’t the saying people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones?

  7. hadokenburst

    Hah! My last comment got moderated because Maj doesn’t want people to know about haunts!! Well you can hide the truth if you want but it will be known with time.

  8. EasierToRun09

    I have to say Maj, as someone who has been reading and paying attention to your work for the past year, I’m sorry that the circumstances are what they are, and I hope things turn out well for you!

    Hopefully guys like you who put out so much for the community will get the recognition (and due compensation) they deserve in the future.

    Best of luck in all of your future endeavors!

  9. then00b

    Throwing my name in the hat with people who are truly sad to see you go, Maj. Like someone else said earlier, your footsies guide was my bible.

    That being said, I absolutely understand where you’re coming from and how frustrating it all must be. I truly hope you find a way to make this work for your time investment but if not, hey just don’t be a stranger ok? :-)

    hadouken,

    that was my fault. one of our newer contributors wasn’t aware of how to use the “Source” function on the site. We talked to Kineda directly, apologized, and got it all sorted out. We always use the source function or link directly back to the site, including eventhubs. Not really sure what the issue is there.

  12. omni

    I can’t even tell you who runs eventhubs. That site has no “face” to it. Where as I know who runs iplaywinner and srk. IPW and SRK both want to be part of the community where as eventhubs stands on the sidelines.

  13. Nyoronoru

    Well haunts at least you talked to Kineda directly and got it all sorted out. I don’t know what would happen if someone made some wild blog post full of accusations.

  14. Maj Post author

    Nyoronoru: Oh i’m sure a bunch of apologists and supporters would get sent in for damage control, while doing their best to avoid discussing any of the valid points brought up in the “wild blog post.”

  15. dannyboy4885

    “Is it really THAT hard to click on a character forum on SRK?”

    Just to clarify, I wasn’t having a go at the SRK character forums; I use (rely on) them as much as anyone. I would only say that players who are relatively new to the scene haven’t yet built up the knowledge base needed to distinguish the facts and useful opinions from the misleading posts sometimes made by well-meaning (but misinformed) members.

    I’ve reached the level where I can make those kinds of judgements, and I have the time to read through several pages of back and forth forum discussions to get to the facts, but I remember what it was like being a complete beginner, wanting instant, concise information to give me a fighting chance online (i.e. which characters are decent, a few simple combos, etc.). Sites like Eventhubs have recognised and met those needs. Therefore, one of their contributions is making these games more accessible to a wider audience, which can only be good for the community in the long run. And as a news site, it’s extremely well organised and presented, as is SRK, for that matter.

    I hope taking a break means that you get to play more games and really enjoy your hobby for what it is, and that it’ll inspire you to post more articles on SRK in future. All the best, dude. (P.S. I sent in a query in your footsies basics article a way back, but I don’t think you ever answered – maybe you thought it was a stupid question! =p)

  16. papasi

    I like how the eventhubs guys dodge my question.

    How do you explain that people calling you out with reposting material WITHOUT A BACK LINK, time and time again?

    Tournament logs and results, yeah as you said, not too creative but still original work.

    But what is your RATIO of ORIGINAL CONTENT vs COPIED MATERIAL on your site?

    Let’s me do some maths : maybe 1 to 20??

    iplaywinners also have a lot of duplicated content with srk, but the ratio is not as shameless as eventhubs. And they do have unique posts with the norcal scene that I don’t see anywhere else. Plus the guides are not straight copy & paste.

  17. jchensor

    @hadokenburst

    The guy from EH was at the stream station and was able to provide me with the names of the players who made top 8 at the time. Being a commentator means it’s really hard to keep track of these things. So, yeah, it was cool that he was conveniently there to provide me that info. I think that’s the main thing I thanked him for. But he certainly wasn’t a “huge” part of the streaming station and I don’t think I thanked him a bunch of times.

  18. Nyoronoru

    Papasi, none of the guides on Eventhubs are copy and paste. Maybe the Battle Points guide for SSF4? None of the MvC2 guides are copy and paste. Neither are the TvC guides. Nor the SSF4 ones, or the HDR ones, or the SF3. And even the ones Catalyst did not create, posters willingly sent in to him to use. Such as the SSF4 rival transcripts.

    So you ask what the ratio of original to copied material for game knowledge on Ehubs? Pretty heavily in favor of original work. Granted, most of it is text so it’s easy to prove. As for the news section, it’s a news aggregator just like IPW and the SRK front page. I don’t think it does a single thing different in that regard but people sure do like singling it out.

    So you can either keep repeating things that aren’t true, or you can honestly just come out and say you’re singling out a website because it is popular.

  19. jabs

    People coming in here and white knighting the bitchmade copy-paste of EH are downright hilarious.

    The ones attacking Maj… not so much.

    I’ve been reading sonichurricane for almost as long as SRK.

    Equivocating between Maj’s contributions and EH’s, is straight up insane.

    Best of luck, Maj – best of luck.

  20. dannyboy4885

    In their defence, EH posts a lot of community news roundups which do little more than link readers to other websites. I can’t see how those websites wouldn’t benefit from millions of readers being linked to their sites. A lot of the other stuff they show is freely available on youtube anyway.

    I’m not sure the purpose of news is to produce original content or organise events. They aggregate content from all over the place and bring the creators of original content some attention. Most people just don’t have time to monitor hundreds of sites just in case some original content pops up on one of them. News websites solve this problem. It seems the suggestion that EH does nothing for the scene perhaps works on the assumption that the scene consists of a relatively small number of tournament level players.

    That said, I wish there was a way for Maj to make money out of what he does because he really deserves to.

  21. b_en

    @maj,
    I’m really sad to see you go but I can most definitely that you need a break. Take your time and get your head back on right so that you can return (if that’s your game plan) refreshed and ready to go for broke. On a daily basis I visit your sites and SRK constantly, I literally go nowhere else as part of my daily routine. Maybe rethinking your marketing strategy would help in the funds department (lord knows everybody needs as much help as they can get these days). Also found it rather salty of catalyst to just show up and not say anything else but “we are not amused!” and just dip. What a douche.

  22. Maj Post author

    Alright, i just went through the last FIVE PAGES of eventhubs front page posts, and the ONLY original content i could find out of 75 POSTS were this battle point guide and this throw range chart. That’s 2/75, less than 3%. Awesome!

    The sad thing is, their throw chart lists two sets of conflicting numerical data. I miss the days when fighting game players who ran websites used to do their own damn research to resolve inconsistencies before publishing anything.

    Of course my favorite part of this story is how Nyoronoru obtained all this information from SRK and is now trying to convince everyone that eventhubs and SRK work the same way.

  23. dannyboy4885

    @Maj

    Thanks a lot for the detailed reply! The community needs well-spoken, conscientious and friendly people like you. I really hope this isn’t the last we hear from you. :)

  24. Nyoronoru

    @Maj
    That was actually out of my own interest. I wanted to see how good Fei Long’s throw range was in comparison to the rest of the cast. Catalyst did his own research for his throw range table over the past 24 hours.

    And earlier I was talking about the GUIDE sections… you know, the little tabs on the top of the page? See those? The front page is a news aggregator!

  25. Maj Post author

    Nyoronoru: Okay sir, since you’re so confident in the content you claim to produce, how about we make a deal?

    You remove every bit of content i created from eventhubs (including news posts) and never embed another one of my future videos, and i’ll remove every bit of content i obtained from eventhubs.

    Fair trade, right? You can even make a “wild blog post” complaining about me to seal the deal.

    Hey if worse comes to worst, you can always rip footage from two existing combovids, delete the credits, add music, and upload it to your u2b channel!

  26. Snoooootch

    Maj, you are my inspiration. You are the reason why I started to do all those videos that are now making it to the front page of srk, eventhubs, and ipw. All I have to say is, thank you. I can’t remember a time in my life where I’ve felt better than the way I feel now. You are the reason I feel this way, and if you need help and support, you’ve got me all the way, bro. This drama will be over soon, and when it is, I hope you dust yourself off and continue on your journey, for I, as well as your fans, will be there to cheer you on. You are the reason a lot of people love these games.

  27. Nyoronoru

    Not my call. Talk to the administrator and you can work out how embedding and sourcing is stealing and that you want the content gone.

    Oh wait, that would be too hard to do, wouldn’t it? You’ve clearly demonstrated to me with this update that you’d rather create a whole bunch of drama and conflict and blame rather than just talk to those in charge and who are completely willing to listen to you.

    Also I wasn’t around when that video was uploaded, but if I had a guess I believe it was user generated content that was submitted and uploaded unknowingly of its pirated nature. Hell, I think it even has the name of the submitters in the comments. That’s a mistake… that you work out with the person in charge! Imagine that!

  28. RogerDodger

    Before I start getting Side Tracked I Wanna Say Thanks To Maj!!!

    Maj you have created a lot of content and done amazing things for the community. From the combo vids at evo down to the articles about how to get better. Thank you for the hours of entertainment you have brought to us and I really Hope to meet you if you come to NCR next weekend.

    @Hadoukenburt
    If you look that was not Haunts, That was me. I personally talked to Kienda about that and we did solve that problem. It was one of my first posts and yes i messesd up. IPW and SRK have worked out any problems that have occurred and no one is perfect. Don’t blame Haunts for My own mistake.

    After this incident I have made sure that I LINK and give credit to every bit of news that I have posted along with putting up original content and Helping out with the IPW Stream. Any information that was shared should be linked to the original article so they can view the full content on the site that created it. Copy and pasting something takes no effort with a sentence explaining what is in it.

  29. WorstGiefEVER

    Have you approached EH about this? There may be ways to make things better, as it is a double edged sword. I agree with what you are saying about them getting a monstrous majority of attention for posting your content in comparison to what you see – the other side of the coin, though, asks if you would be getting 95k hits a month if it didn’t exist.

    Maybe an agreement can be made for them to only post text links to your content and not reproduce it on their site? As for them replicating your videos, I’d report that. I have 600+ videos on my youtube account, and absolutely every single one of them belong to me. I had a few people rip videos from my site, ESPECIALLY the videos I made at the super sf4 preview event in london before the game was released. I reported every single ripped video and got them all removed.

    I actually had someone troll me and report my videos as stolen, which got my account suspended for the last three weeks leading to the release of ssfiv (youtube standard procedure when you get three separate reports on your account) – despite the fact they received an email from capcom confirming my videos were mine, procedure said i still had to wait it out, costing me probably 200k+ views and 3k+ subscribers.

    At present I only produce video content for myself (i write news and interviews about europe for ipw) on my youtube account, hoping to get both an extension in the max length video i can post and also an advertising agreement with youtube, so eventhubs serves my purposes. I take my content directly to them. My situation is not the same as yours, however.

    Your footsies articles are literally bibles – have you ever thought about serialising such content on game websites and/or magazines? Magazines especially, I think it would be a good idea (for a fee of course).

  30. WorstGiefEVER

    @Nyoronoru

    “Also I wasn’t around when that video was uploaded, but if I had a guess”

    Stop right there! Everything you say after this does not contribute to the conversation. Work with facts, not assumptions.

  31. Nyoronoru

    @WorstGiefEVER
    I actually made an educated guess because the name of the creators are in the video description. I should’ve been more clear about that, sorry.

    I’ll just email Catalyst and ask him to remove it later. I have a good opinion of him and I am 99% sure it was a simple accident.

  32. kaneka

    Maj,

    you’re awesome. Sorry I haven’t posted many comments, but things have been busy on my end :(

    Everything you do – footsies, even the combovidmaker tutorials that I have little interest in – is absolutely wonderful and obviously a labor of love. I hope to see you back soon.

  33. Maj Post author

    Nyoronoru: You sure have a lot of excuses. Can you please do us a favor and stop acting dumb? It’s insulting to me and everyone else who has any experience with managing content within a community. You guys wouldn’t be anywhere near as successful if you weren’t aware of what you’re doing, and i’m sure you know ten times as much as i do about search engine optimization. But no, every sneaky thing you do to consolidate website traffic and undermine content creators is an accident, right?

    WorstGiefEVER: Dude, i’ve seen the stats. I get almost no traffic from eventhubs. That site is a black hole. The majority of my traffic comes from SRK and various content-producing blogs linking to my website. I’m telling you, eventhubs has no reservations about embedding my videos on their website and then crediting “Sonichurricane.com” without even bothering to make it a clickable link. They’ll even steal translations and first-person reports from SRK and simply credit the name of the author without bothering to ask for permission or even link back to the source. And again, even linking back to the source isn’t a fair trade when you’re giving the viewer zero reason to click on the damn link! That’s the truth – eventhubs is better than anyone else at giving their visitors zero reason to leave their website.

  34. Maj Post author

    Anyway the whole point of taking a break was to reduce some stress and this whole ordeal is stressing me out worse than i was before.

    Like i said earlier – after this all blows over, i’ll be quietly rooting for SRK to come out ahead in the end. I have absolutely no respect for the way eventhubs climbed to the top and i hope the fighting game community doesn’t disappoint me in who they choose to support.

    Although i can’t imagine it being a hard choice, with SRK doing so much to help the community while eventhubs does everything to help themselves.

  35. Tarnish

    I remember posting tournament results for HDR at Northeast Championships 10 in the SRK forum. I later found it on Eventhubs later with no credit to me, but that’s not really my point. Specifically, I just want to point out that the reason I know it was my post is because I listed Ganelon’s chosen character as “HyouBAL”, which was completely untouched in Eventhubs’ results until sometime later, I even posted in the comments the correction and it was ignored. HyouBAL is a derogatory term for ST Claw players in Japan… but more importantly, I think it’s pretty telling of just how little of a shit EH must give in terms of this community.

    It’s sad that folks are all too willing to let the site be their eyes and ears and insight into fighting games. It’s enough to make anyone cynical if they actual notice the situation. I’ll just post the article I told you about as a journal entry, I guess. College isn’t a good thing as far as working in conjunction with fighting game interests.

  36. JohnnyChimpo

    I will be sad to see you leave Maj. Your articles and interviews (the 5 questions series in particular) are the most insightful out. If SRK is the newspaper, Sonic Hurricane is an academic journal. I completely understand your frustration with the situation you are in and would also like to see it remedied. More people need to speak out about how they feel concerning eventhubs and the fighting game community.

    One issue with eventhubs that I would like to see addressed is that they often don’t link back to the original content (this is especially true if it’s from srk), or give any reason for the reader to go there. Entire articles or all parts of a series of videos will be posted on eventhubs, with only a “thanks to shoryuken.com” at the bottom of the article, where no one sees it. The “shoryuken.com” is not clickable. Who is going to type in the address after already viewing the entirety of the content?

    When SRK posts a news article, often the first thing mentioned is a clickable link to the source. Also, when the news item is an article written for another website, SRK doesn’t copy and paste the whole article in their story on it. They either post a sample paragraph or just tell you to go directly to the site to view it.

    Additionally, as you guys probably know, Keits and Skisonic went out to New York Comic Con this October and got a TON of info, gameplay videos, and interviews about marvel 3. They did this comprehensive coverage specifically for SRK. Many of the videos were subsequently posted on eventhubs with no link or even MENTION of srk, just a link to keits’s youtube account and a comment on how the content therein was hit-or-miss.

    How can you put someone’s in-depth interview with S-Kill on your website and then insult their other content while posting an in-direct link? Of course, Keits knew that eventhubs would probably do something like this, so he went out of his way in each video to state that he was for “Shoryuken.com and WakeupSRK”. Does SRK really have to start putting ads for itself in any video they post, for fear it will be embedded somewhere else with no link or credit given?

    a clickable “via Shoryuken” was eventually added to the article after complaints were made in the comments section. It’s worth noting that the first person who complained about the lack of citing sources (and did so civilly) had his comment removed and was banned from eventhubs. Another commenter asked why the first one had been banned and no response was given.

  37. chicobo329

    Maj, you don’t deserve this BS at all. All the traffic stealing is terrible for such an esteemed researcher and producer in the community as you are. You are the inspiration for countless combo video producers; I see your name pop up in special thanks all the time. Don’t stop doing what you’re doing, even if it’s not on the web. You’re a tremendous help to so many people.

    I also second Worst Gief Ever’s suggestion for serializing your content somehow. The Footsies articles remind me of Sirlin’s ‘Super Rebalancing Fighter II HD Remix’ articles where he goes into depth the reasons behind the HDR changes; there was enough content to fill a book as Sirlin pointed out and I think you have enough content with Footises to put into some good magazines or websites.

  38. jchensor

    @Nyoronoru

    The problem is the attempt to “credit the creators” is very half-assed. It doesn’t take a genius to notice that the video wasn’t actually made by “blazianbones” just from his video description so there is no reason to credit him at all. The video was mostly made by kysg, which is clearly stated in the video itself that blazianbones has uploaded, and kysg is NONE of the people listed in the credits on the EventHubs video. The rest of the video was made by Mopreme, and I’m pretty sure he’s none too happy about having his content ripped and then just having his name in the credits of the YouTube page as a throwaway. If I take a Combo Video someone else made and upload it to my YouTube and put their names in the credits where 98% of the people don’t click the “see more” option to even see the names, does that make it okay?

    Believe me, if I upload someone else’s Combo Video onto my YouTube channel, I would put their name in the damn title. “Ryu Combo Video by KYSG.” And I’d only do it IF their video didn’t exist anywhere else on YouTube already. And I certainly would NOT re-edit it with new music, cutting out all the titles, and combining it with someone ELSE’S Combo Video.

    I mean, honestly, it took EFFORT to make that video out of someone else’s content. And the only reason why I get so salty about this is because I make Combo Videos myself, and I hate it when people steal my stuff and claim it as their own, which has happened many times in the past.

    I think i’m gonna take a break from all this chaos for the rest of the day and maybe go to Denjin Arcade. Never been there before, mainly because it’s out in the middle of nowhere but i’ve always wanted to go. Hopefully it still exists.

    Thanks again for the support sirs and ma’ams.

  40. stfunoob

    @Nyoronoru

    Seriously man, get the fuck out of here. EventHubs has their dick so far up your ass you can’t even think straight or come up with compelling answers or reasoning to what everyone is saying. Bottom line is that you support a website that produces nearly no content and is designed fundamentally from the ground up to earn revenue by copying and compiling content from other places. Seriously, you really think you two fucking geniuses like you and catalyst alone could come up with all that content? You cant even put together a valid argument for fuck’s sake, how are you going to put together legitimate character strategies? gtfo.

    It’s sites like EventHubs and business practices like yours that make it impossible for people to make a living or at least be rewarded somewhat for doing what they truly love. Way to go.

    You’re doing the right thing – you’re taking yourself out of the problem at the very least, making it so there’s one less site to copy and paste from.

    I’d say that if you end up wanting to post anything in the future, do it the old-school way, but instead of burning bandwidth-money for the video downloads, put it on your YouTube channel, disable embedding, and have a text-only transcript hosted here, linked from the YT video description. It’s not going to pull in hordes of readers, but at least “news aggregates” won’t have any reason to take your work, since there’s no pretty YouTube thumbnail to catch the eye. I was fine with clicking blue links and reading text transcripts in the past, and anybody who really loves the games will continue to do the same
    . We’ll just have to do it less frequently, but that’s OK – you have to wait for something if it’s really worth a damn. Have fun at Denjin, see how long you can keep R4 K-Gief going for me.

    I’ve been reading the site since before the drastic overhaul (Guile doing sonic hurricane to start off the page like 6 years ago–guile exhibitions!!!). Sad to see that there aren’t going to be any more updates… You’ve done great work in the past and have been still creating great content to date. Some of the most informative/unique articles you will see on nearly any site. Sad to see someone give up on something that looks like its legitimately their passion–you wouldn’t be analyzing juggle properties/footsies/mind games/setups/etc. if you weren’t truly interested in that kind of thing. You write articles that sound, for lack of a better word, real. I guess I just mean you just seem more genuine than most sites out there.

    ~Good luck and I sincerely hope that I haven’t seen the last of anymore of your articles/videos.

    I don’t want to sound like an EH defender because, believe me, I rarely even visit the site. But even as recently as a few weeks ago, SRK has been copy and pasting interviews in their entirety from other sites. Here’s just one example I pulled from a google search, and I remember seeing others. Sure, SRK put the source link, but if you copy and paste the entire interview, who’s going to click the link?

    Maj, I reiterate that I have respect for your work, but your blind “SRK is immune to my criticisms” attitude is very naive.

    It’s really a shame shit like this happens, especially when you put up THE best content on FG’s out there. If it wasn’t for that footsies handbook, I probably would not be playing Street Fighter. Thank you.

    Well, you do what you need to do Maj. You need to live your life first and foremost.

    Personally, I think people are really too hung up on what SRK, EH, and IPW are doing as news sites. That’s not really the bigger issue that’s being brought to light.
